Pottermore's Magical Quill Challenge Begins July 31

The Pottermore Insider Blog and website have been updated this blog post and link, revealing more about J. K. Rowling's latest project:

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted the hidden link in our 'You ask, we answer' blog post from 19 July, which took you to an interview J.K. Rowling gave in 2000.

In the interview was some interesting information about a Magical Quill, located in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Magical Quill detects the birth of a magical child and writes their name down in a large book.

Every year, Professor McGonagall checks the book and sends owls to the children who are turning eleven, to inform themthat they have a place at Hogwarts. Each day for seven days, from 31 July to 6 August, we will be placing a clue on the Pottermore homepage to help you locate The Magical Quill. If you find it, you'll have the chance to gain early access to Pottermore.

There will be a new clue every day, and each clue will relate to a different book in the Harry Potter series. On Day 1 the clue will relate to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, on Day 2 the clue will relate to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and so forth. The clues will also vary in difficulty. On Days 1-3 the clues will be harder, and on Days 4-7 the clues will be easier.

To find The Magical Quill, you need to solve the clue and add the answer to the end of the web address. This will lead you to a website where The Magical Quill will be located while early access places are available. The Magical Quill's location will change every day.

Example

Clue: How many books are there in the Harry Potter series? Multiply this number by 10.

Answer: 70

Add this number to the end of the website address. (In this case it would be http://quill.pottermore.com/70)

Hit 'Return' to go to the website where The Magical Quill is located.

Once you have found The Magical Quill, you will be redirected to Pottermore.com. If the registration process is still open for that day, you will be able to submit your details to register to access Pottermore early.

It's important to note that finding The Magical Quill does not guarantee you access to registration, as registration will only remain openwhile the early access places allocated for the relevant day, between 31 July to 6 August, are available.

Don't worry if you don’t manage to register first time. There will be plenty of opportunities to find The Magical Quill as we will be revealing a new clue each day from 31 July to 6 August. For those who miss out on earlyaccess to Pottermore, please note the site will be open to all from October. Keep visiting Pottermore to find out when registration commences.

We won't be telling you when a clue goes live, so you'll need to keep a careful eye on Pottermore.com over the seven-day period. However, we will let you know, via Pottermore.com and the Insider, when registration for a particular day has come to an end.

Finally, please note that we will not be enabling early access to the site straight away. Once The Magical Quill challenge is over, we will send successful early access registrants a Welcome email, letting them know whenthey will be able to access Pottermore. We won’t be able to let everyone into the Beta site at the same time, so please be patient with us. You may have to wait a few weeks for your Welcome email to arrive.

Tom Felton Attends Premiere of His New Film, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," Rupert Grint Shows His Support

Actor Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) attended the Hollywood premiere of his new film, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" on Thursday evening at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Fellow Potter co-star Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) also happened to be in town and stopped by the premiere to show his support for his friend wearing a homemade "I [heart] Tom Felton" t-shirt. Nice to see the Weasley/Malfoy rivalry was left on the big screen!

Earlier this week, Felton also stopped by the late night talk show Conan to talk some more about "Deathly Hallows: Part 2." Host Conan O'Brien took the opportunity to bring up some Draco/Harry fan art, taking Felton by surprise. Video of his appearance can be seen at this link.

Alan Rickman Discusses the 'Potter' Series and Snape's Twisting Path

In a new interview with RTE, Alan Rickman discusses his years spent filming the 'Harry Potter' series and his pure admiration for the storytelling of J.K. Rowling.

On understanding the character of Severus Snape as the series moved on, he stated:

"...you're never quite sure what the agendas are, so there's as big a question mark over my head as I'm reading it and playing it as there is over everybody else's, until it's resolved. You know that the stakes are always very high for him, whatever the outcome proves to be."

On the last film's themes and how they resonate, he stated:

"The last film is about resolution and new beginnings. It's a springboard to the real future of these three young people and the lives they're going to lead. So, yeah, words like redemption and loyalty and what do you believe in and what are your values, they're all like great neon signs over their heads as they send their kids off to Hogwarts."

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2' Hits $1 Billion in Global Box Office

It's the first in the franchise to pass the milestone, doing so only two weeks after its release.

In a fitting farewell to one of the most magical film series in Hollywood history, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the first film in the franchise to reach the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Deathly Hallows 2 will cross the milestone on Saturday, having grossed $296 million domestically and $630 million overseas through Thursday for a global total of $926 million. Another blockbuster weekend at the multiplex is forecast, allowing the film to easily pass the vaunted $1 billion mark.

The movie, benefiting from being released in 3D, is racing past the milestone in about two weeks, a remarkable achievement. Until now, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone overseas) was the top grossing pic in the franchise, having grossed $974.8 million globally in 2001-02.

The Harry Potter franchise has always been immensely successful internationally, with every title in the series earning substantially more offshore. So far, 68 percent of Deathly Hallows Part 2’s gross has been earned at the international box office, fueled by standout performances in the U.K., Japan, Australia and Germany.

By the end of this weekend, Deathly Hallows Part 2 should surpass Sorcerer’s Stone's domestic gross of $317 million, the best in the series. It also will have surpassed the $659 million earned last year internationally by Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 becomes the 9th movie in history to gross north of $1 billion worldwide, a club that includes Warners’ The Dark Knight ($1 billion), Disney’s Alice in Wonderland ($1.02 billion) and Disney’s 2011 summer tentpole Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1.03 billion).

Daniel Radcliffe Records Video Message for Military Families As Part of Joining Forces Campaign

First Lady Michelle Obama recently enlisted the help of actor Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) to thank military families who were invited to a special screening of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2."

The screening was part of Joining Forces, "a national initiative that gives our service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned."

A video of Mrs. Obama at the Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana's Summer Youth Camp and Mr. Radcliffe's accompanying video message was released by the White House and can be seen below.

Hi there everybody at the Naval Air Station Oceana. With so many great characters created by J.K. Rowling, it is very difficult to come up with a complete list without feeling that someone or something got left out.

'Harry Potter' Hits $900M Worldwide in Record Time

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 crossed the $900 million worldwide mark on Wednesday, its 15th day in release. That made Harry's last stand the fastest movie ever to reach that milestone, breaking Avatar's 18-day record.

On Wednesday, Deathly Hallows Part 2 brought in $24.7 million worldwide ($5.2 million from domestic and $19.5 million from foreign), lifting its total to $906.8 million. It climbed to 19th place on the all-time chart, jumping past Goblet of Fire's $896.9 million final haul.

The first Harry Potter, Sorcerer's Stone, still ranks as the top-grossing with $974.8 million, while only Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Transformers: Dark of the Moon slot higher for 2011 with $1.03 billion and $926.1 million, respectively. Deathly Hallows Part 2 is on course to join the $1 billion club by early next week.

Domestic alone, Deathly Hallows Part 2's business was down 58 percent from last Wednesday to $5.2 million, falling harder but grossing more than the previous July Potters, Half-Blood Prince and Order of the Phoenix, at the same point. With a $291.7 million tally in 13 days, it also edged out the final gross of Goblet of Fire ($290 million) and will eclipse Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows Part 1 on Thursday (though it will still rank last in estimated attendance).

Captain America: The First Avenger topped the Wednesday domestic box office with $5.8 million. With an $86.4 million tally in six days, the Marvel Comics adaptation extended its lead over the summer's other superhero movies through day six. Thor had $80.7 million by day six, and its latest total was $180.3 million.

'Harry Potter' Becomes Top-Grossing Franchise

On Wednesday, Harry Potter edged out Star Wars to become the top-grossing franchise of all time. The eight Potter movies have accumulated $2.223 billion, compared to $2.218 billion for Star Wars. They're also the only two franchises to have crossed the $2 billion mark, though James Bond and Batman would join the party when adjusted for ticket price inflation

Star Wars still trumps Potter in terms of estimated attendance, more than doubling the wizard wunderkind. It even maintains most of that margin when its re-releases are factored out.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 pulled in $12.27 million on Wednesday, down 20 percent from Tuesday. That ranked as the 13th highest-grossing non-opening Wednesday ever. The first Transformers holds the non-opening Wednesday record with $29.1 million, while The Dark Knight made $18.4 million with a 12 percent Tuesday-to-Wednesday drop at the same point. Deathly Hallows Part 1, Goblet of Fire and Sorcerer's Stone all had higher grossing Wednesdays than Deathly Hallows Part 2, but each of those were buoyed by the Thanksgiving holiday.

With a $214.88 million tally, Deathly Hallows Part 2 slotted third among the top-grossing six-day openings, behind The Dark Knight's $222.15 million and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's $214.93 million, but it's still the fastest-grossing Potter, topping Half-Blood Prince's $167.9 million six-day haul and ahead of any Twilight movie. Normalized for ticket price inflation, Deathly Hallows Part 2 would rank ninth on that chart.

Meanwhile, Harry Potter distributor Warner Bros. crossed the $1 billion mark for the year, marking the studio's 11th billion dollar year in a row. Currently, Warner ranks second to Paramount, but the studio was the top grosser of the past three years.

Our own MuggleNet fan Christopher Bratt was lucky enough to be at the EA Bright Light Studios in the UK when he was chosen to interview Tom Felton.

Tom happened to be on location at the EA studios to do voice tracks for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows video game. During the interview, Tom said:

"I never knew what the actors have to do behind the scenes of a game, but quite a lot. There is quite a lot of sounds that you have to make that aren't just so much talking."

Google, Pottermore Team Up to Provide Fans Unique Ebook Experience

When Pottermore officially launches in October of this year, Google will allow fans to make the most of their ebook experience.

"Pottermore and Google are teaming up to integrate Pottermore with a number of Google products and APIs. So when the series of Harry Potter ebooks launches on Pottermore.com in early October, these bestsellers will be available in the U.S. via the open Google eBooks platform. When you buy a Harry Potter ebook from Pottermore, you will be able to choose to keep it in your Google Books library in-the-cloud, as well as on other e-reading platforms."

Google eBooks can be read on most devices and Google Checkout will be the preferred third-party payment for all purchases on Pottermore.com.

Emma Watson Goes Back to University in the UK

Emma Watson is returning to the UK to complete part of her university studies.

The Potter star plans to study English at Oxford University in the autumn.

Emma had decided to take a break from her studies earlier this year due to a number of work commitments including the filming of the final Potter film.

After enrolling at the prestigious Ivy League Brown University in America, Emma has said she loves studying "pretty much more than anything."

Although Emma is completing the third year of her degree at Oxford she still plans to return to Brown University in 2012 for her fourth and final year.

'Potter' Kids Take the Stage, Have a Ball at LeakyCon 2011

LeakyCon 2011 had many highlights: Open At The Close, an event inside The Wizarding World of Harry Potter just for attendees, early screenings of Deathly Hallows - Part 2, a live LeakyMug with both MuggleCast and PotterCast, as well as tons of wizard rock and appearances by Evanna Lynch, Chris Rankin and Scarlett Byrne.

But for some it was the Potter kids that stole the show. One conference-goer had this to say:

"I loved that they so embodied their characters. Not just playing roles, but in a way it really did feel like they walked out of the movie and into the con."

"Young Snape [Benedict Clarke] was walking around at the ball in a Slytherin tie. Young Sirius [Rohan Gotobed] was wearing a shirt that said 'I spent time in Azkaban'. Rose [Helena Barlow] kept answering questions very diplomatically, in a very Hermione-like way. I couldn't get over it. It really felt as though they WERE the characters, not just actors in a film."

Will Dunn [James Sirius Potter] tweeted: Absolutely loved the signings, and the Q&As, fans were awesome, Melissa Anelli and everyone else did a great job :)

Benedict Clarke added: The Q&A and HP trivia, running on stage and dancing with the other actors at the ball, the Chinese Fireball rollercoaster :)

Emma Watson may revisit 'Beauty and the Beast' with Guillermo Del Toro

Here's an excellent bit of news to cure your post-Deathly Hallows blues. In a press conference for the upcoming Crazy, Stupid, Love producer Denise Di Novi mentioned that she was preparing for a Beauty and the Beast project with Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth), and had Emma Watson lined up to star.

While exact details on the project are almost non-existant, Del Toro is currently preparing to go into production on Pacific Rim, although it is unclear whether Del Toro would act as director, writer, producer, or all three. Emma Watson, meanwhile, recently finished filming for Perks of Being a Wallflower, so her participation would seem more doable.

This is clearly huge news, so we can expect follow up questions and information to come very soon, and we'll be sure to have it all for you right here.

Box Office Report: ‘Harry Potter’ Nabs a Record-Breaking $481.4 Mil in Worldwide Debut

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the previous crown holder at $394 million; Deathly Hallows Part 2 earns a staggering $312 million at the international box office, and $169.2 million domestically.

Talk about some major magic.

Warner Bros.’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 grossed a massive $481.4 million in its worldwide debut, by far the best showing of all time.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the previous crown holder at $394 million.

Deathly Hallows 2’s opening overseas clocked in at $312 million, while it earned $169.2 million in North America.

Earlier this summer, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides scored the biggest debut of all time at the international box office when opening to $262 million. Deathly Hallows safely beat that number as it rolled out in 59 countries.

Domestically, Deathly Hallows raced past the $158.4 million opening of The Dark Knight to score the top three-day weekend debut of all time.

“The phenomenal result is a true testament to the universal and timeless appeal of J.K. Rowling's beloved books. Whether in German, Russian, Spanish, Japanese or any other language, fans everywhere have embraded the finale," Warner Bros. president of international distribution Veronika Kwan-Rubinek said.

"We thank the filmmakers, cast and crew for this amazing film, as well as our teams and partners in exhibition for bringing this epic story to its conclusion on big screens all over the world," she continued.

Working its final movie mojo, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 soared into the record books with the highest-grossing opening weekend ever. The series finale drew an estimated $169.2 million on around 11,000 screens at 4,375 locations, dethroning The Dark Knight's $158.4 million.

Deathly Hallows Part 2's first weekend flew past the previous franchise high of $125 million, posted by Deathly Hallows Part 1 last November, and it topped the franchise in terms of estimated attendance as well. While its opening gross also out-distanced The Dark Knight, Spider-Man 3 ($151.1 million), The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($142.8 million), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($135.6 million) and the first Spider-Man ($114.8 million), Deathly Hallows Part 2's estimated opening attendance was less than those titles, ranking sixth overall.

After conjuring the opening day record of $92.1 million on Friday (buoyed by a record-shattering $43.5 million midnight launch), Deathly Hallows Part 2 saw the steepest Friday-to-Saturday drop on record for a non-holiday first weekend, falling 53 percent to an estimated $42.85 million. Its Saturday slotted ninth among the top-grossing Saturdays of all time. Distributor Warner Bros. projected a 22 percent Saturday-to-Sunday decline to $33.6 million, which would rank eighth on the all-time Sunday grosses chart.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 marked Harry Potter's first foray into 3D, and it made a splash with the broadest 3D launch ever (3,100-plus locations, including 274 in IMAX). However, the majority of moviegoers still opted to see the movie in the standard ("2D") format. 3D accounted for 43 percent of the gross, which was a lower share than Transformers: Dark of the Moon's 60 percent at the same point but in the ballpark of most of this summer's other big movies. Still, at an estimated $72.5 million, that translated to the second biggest-grossing 3D opening yet, behind Alice in Wonderland (2010)'s $81.3 million. In IMAX alone, Deathly Hallows Part 2 delivered the top-grossing start ever, generating $15.5 million versus Alice's second-place $12.2 million.

According to Warner Bros., 54 percent of Deathly Hallows Part 2's audience was female, compared to 57 percent for the last movie, and 45 percent was under 25 years old, compared to 56 percent for the last movie.
As a franchise, Harry Potter has now grossed $2.177 billion, and it's on the brink of eclipsing Star Wars' $2.218 billion to become the top-grossing franchise in history. In terms of estimated attendance, though, the eight Potter movies have had 57 percent of the impact of the seven Star Wars movies. Star Wars even wins on this front when just its initial releases are counted. However, Harry Potter has earned its place in the pantheon with remarkably consistent blockbuster performances. After Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the sequels' maximum attendance difference was less than 20 percent. That first movie, though, should remain the best-attended, even as Deathly Hallows Part 2 becomes the top-grossing entry.

'Harry Potter' conjures first-day record of $92.1M

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Harry Potter has cast his biggest spell yet with a record-breaking first day at the box office for his final film.

Distributor Warner Bros. reports that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" summoned up $92.1 million domestically on opening day Friday.

That's nearly $20 million more than the previous record-holder, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which took in $72.7 million in its first day two years ago.

The film added $75 million in 57 overseas countries Friday, raising its international total to $157.5 million since it began rolling out Wednesday. That gives the film a worldwide total of about $250 million.

Among its first-day totals Friday was $14.8 million in Great Britain, which Warner Bros. reported was the biggest single day ever for a movie.

The first 3-D film in the series, Deathly Hallows: Part 2" benefited from the higher price theaters charge for 3-D tickets, which cost a few dollars more than 2-D.

In a single day, "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" took in more money than four of the previous seven "Harry Potter" films did over their entire opening weekends.

The finale of the "Harry Potter" saga also set a record for midnight screenings with $43.5 million. That topped "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," which pulled in about $30 million in its first midnight shows last year.

Box-office tracker Hollywood.com projected Saturday that "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" also could break the opening-weekend record of $158.4 million domestically held by "The Dark Knight."

Record Breaking Midnight Screenings of 'Harry Potter 7 Pt. 2'!

Warner Bros. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 posts record-breaking North American midnight grosses with an incredible $43.5 million from shows (in 3,800 locs) starting at 12:01am on Friday and running throughout the pre-dawn hours. Sell outs were the norm as excited fans lined up all over the country to see this final installment of the most successful movie franchise ever.

This beats the previous midnight record set by 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse which earned around $30 million for its midnight screenings on Wednesday June 30, 2010 and easily surpasses the midnight gross for Deathly Hallows, Part 1 back on Friday November 19, 2010.

This sets the stage for a massive and potentially record-breaking single-day gross for the film on Friday (which will include these midnight revenues) that could hit $80 million and take the all-time single-day crown worn by The Twilight Saga: New Moon which earned $72.7 million in its debut on Friday, November 20, 2009 after posting the then second best midnight gross of $26,270,000.

Pre-release projections for the total weekend take for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 have varied from $125 million to well over $150 million and beyond and given this amazing midnight performance the film has a real shot at posting the biggest opening weekend of all-time if it beats The Dark Knight’s $158.4 million debut back in mid-July 2008. We will not know the final outcome until Sunday morning’s box-office weekend estimates, but there is no question that this is already one of the most monumental movie events of this or any year.

If you missed the piece I wrote on class in the series last fall, when I swallowed my pride and came out as a Harry Potter fan, I’ll say it here once more (and hopefully never again): I love these books. It’s a safe bet that I always will, when I force them on my children at some inappropriately young age, or my grandchildren, who will have them zapped directly into their brains. I love the movies as extensions of the books, even the less-than-stellar ones, but I haven’t been looking forward to the final film; I’m not ready for the end of all things.

Pottermore Launches Official Blog: The Pottermore Insider

The Rotten Tomatoes website, which keeps track of reviews for movies, is reporting that with 150 reviews counted so far, that Deathly Hallows is Fresh! Deathly Hallows has 145 Fresh reviews and 5 Rotten reviews giving the film a freshness rating of 97%. Rotten Tomatoes is predicting that Deathly Hallows may become the best reviewed film of series.

Can Sarah Palin Beat Harry Potter?

Sure, Sarah Palin believes she can beat President Barack Obama in 2012, but the could-be candidate has a more pressing opponent: Harry Potter.

This weekend, the Palin-endorsed documentary The Undefeated squares off at theaters against Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Does it stand a chance? Does she? Can she really beat him—you know, the wizard kid?

For starters, barring a Voldemort spell, no one and no film is going to deny the last Potter film a final No. 1 opening.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, bowing on more than 4,000 screens, many of them 3-D, has already scored a $43.6 million overseas debut and raked in a reported $32 million here from advance-ticket sales.

Box Office Mojo's Brandon Gray told us the film's easily looking at a $130 million Friday-Sunday domestically, and maybe a Dark Knight-besting take in the neighborhood of $160 million.

As for The Undefeated—it's opening on 10 screens in cities such as Kennesaw, Ga., and Grapevine, Texas. But don't take that stat to mean Potter's going to rout Palin.

If The Undefeated can get off to a start like Bowling for Columbine, to name a Michael Moore documentary that's presumably nothing like Palin's, the movie would rival, and possibly surpass Deathly Hallows Part 2 for per-screen-average bragging rights. (Last fall's Deathly Hallows Part 1 averaged about $30,000 at each of its opening-weekend theaters.)

Still, that's a big if.

As of Wednesday, the documentary's distributor had no word on advance sell-outs, if any. "Our people are reporting back that there's good momentum," Trevor Drinkwater, CEO of ARC Entertainment, said."…But we're trying to keep our expectations [in check]."

Gray said he thought The Undefeated would perform better than most documentaries, but not better than Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

"Palin is so plentiful in the media as it is," Gray said. "It's not like [the film's] an answer to whether she's running for President or not."

Here's a look, meanwhile, at some of the biggest opening-weekend per-screen-average debuts from recent months, per Box Office Mojo stats:

Box Office Report: Midnight Shows of 'Harry Potter' Already at $25 Million in North America

Opening at 12:01 a.m. Friday in 3,800 theaters across the U.S. and Canada, the franchise finale has already earned a record-breaking $43.6 million overseas.

Theaters have already reported $25 million in ticket sales for midnight runs of Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and it’s not even noon yet on the West Coast.

That puts the movie safely on course to become the top midnight grosser of all time, surpassing the $30 million earned by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in midnight runs.

All told, Deathly Hallows 2 will be playing in 3,800 theaters when opening at 12:01 a.m. Friday in North America. The $25 million was reported by only a fraction, or 1,400 theaters.

There’s growing consensus that Deathly Hallows 2 has a strong shot at scoring the top weekend opening of all time at the domestic box office, besting the $158.4 million nabbed by another Warner Bros. pic, The Dark Knight.

Overseas, the final title in history’s most lucrative film franchise is already smashing records, grossing an unprecedented $43.6 million on Wednesday as it rolled out in 26 markets, including France, Australia, Italy and Russia.

Warner Bros. says that's a pre-opening record.

The final installment in the "Harry Potter" series is on a record-breaking binge. It's on more screens than any other "Harry Potter" movie -- more than 11,000 in 4,375 locations -- and according to Warners, the number of IMAX screens, 274, breaks an industry record.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows–Part 2 has already collected $25 million domestically from advance ticket sales, according to Warner Bros. (Variety first reported the news.) The majority of the sales have reportedly been for midnight screenings, giving Deathly Hallows a legitimate shot at beating the $30 million midnight record set last year by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The final Harry Potter film will also be aiming its wand at some other box-office milestones, such as the largest opening day (currently The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $72.7 million) and the biggest opening weekend (The Dark Knight with $158.4 million).

Deathly Hallows opens early Friday morning with midnight showings. The 3-D movie also debuts this week in every major foreign market except China (where it premieres Aug. 4), meaning the worldwide-opening record of $394 million (set by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) could also be in danger. Fanatic Farmer Creates Harry Potter Corn Maze

With the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" this Friday, more than a decade of Potter-mania is coming to an end.

But that doesn't mean fans are ready to say goodbye to The Boy Who Lived just yet. In fact, one farmer in York, England has created two Harry Potters on his own using an unexpected artistic medium: corn crops.

Shaping his fields with wizardlike precision, farmer Top Pearcy designed a corn maze that forms two nearly identical Potter portraits from a bird's eye view.

The circular-framed images -- which look like a picture of Harry you might find in Ginny Weasley's locket -- are carved into a field of more than one million corn stalks, which makes this one of the biggest maize mazes in the world.

As an added point of interest, the wily farmer designed a few small differences between the husky Harrys, as well as the "frames" that surround each portrait. For instance, it looks like the one on the left has that infamous forehead scar, while the right one doesn't, and the left Potter boasts an ear that the right Harry seems to be missing. See if you can spot the other more subtle variations in the designs.

And whatever House this crop artist is in (Ravenclaw?) make sure one of the professors awards it fifty points.

J.K. Rowling today, Thursday 23rd June, answered mounting speculation about the nature of her new project and announced Pottermore, a unique and free-to-use website which builds an exciting online experience around the reading of her hugely successful Harry Potter books, and is partnered by Sony.

The announcement today was heralded by the revealing of the website’s name via an online search for its letters, and a ‘coming soon’ holding page which received over a million visits within 36 hours of launching.

For this groundbreaking collaborative project, J.K. Rowling has written extensive new material about the characters, places and objects in the much-loved stories, which will inform, inspire and entertain readers as they journey through the storylines of the books. Pottermore will later incorporate an online shop where people can purchase exclusively the long-awaited Harry Potter eBooks, in partnership with J.K. It looks like there could be more magic on the way for Harry Potter fans!

A mysterious new website has popped up promoting a top secret project by author JK Rowling, called Pottermore.

It seems the owls are gathering for a big announcement at 12 noon on 23 June 2011, when JK will let us all in on the secrets behind Pottermore.

Fans are already VERY excited about what it all means. We have no idea, but we can tell you that it's NOT a new Potter book.

A spokeswoman for JK also said it's not directly related to the final film in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which is being released in July.

Confirmation came via the projects Twitter account,@Pottermore. This news also completes the speculation of what the last letter of the project would be. Updates coming! As a teaser before the official announcement, ten letters have been hidden on the website below for you to find. To locate them you need to find ten sets of coordinates, enter them into the search box one set at a time, and take a look around.

Pottermore Speculation Continues

Last night, ten map coordinates were scattered across nine fan sites and one official Twitter account, revealing letters that spelled out P-O-T-T-E-R-M-O-R-E. The speculation started here with the first letter revealed on Leaky, leading to confirmation that Pottermore is actually J.K. Rowling's newest project. So here is all the latest:

-Leaky has seen a preview of Pottermore and it is, in a word, breathtaking. That is all we are permitted to say at the moment.

-There is an Twitter account, @pottermore as well as a live domain: pottermore.com, which only features J.K. Rowling's signature and a "coming soon" notice.

-Sites overnight have been speculating on images that were posted on the fan site Clubedoslugue.com: These are old images that have been going around for months, and are not Pottermore.

-There has also been a lot of discussion around the trademark information on the word Pottermore. The info, which was registered in 2009, says that Pottermore is trademarked for, among other things, multiple-user networks, online boards, digital audio, printed books, toys, retail stores, and more, and more, and more - in short, pretty much everything. We don't feel this gives much direction one way or the other.

Previewing 'LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7': A Game By Potter Fans For Potter Fans

After attending E3 2011 last week, GamingUnion.net has posted a preview of LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 and it is overwhelmingly positive.

"Hogwarts is now a much more expansive place as you're able to just wander around and attend lessons. You can even walk out the front door and visit other places in the Harry Potter universe, such as King's Cross station."

The game will be based on the films from Order of the Phoenix through Deathly Hallows - Part 2, with six levels to complete per film.

"Aside from the campaign levels, there will be plenty of other things to occupy players, with around 16 extra lessons to undertake in order to learn some extra stuff. There will also be plenty of side-missions and hidden tasks to get Gold Bricks."

Director David Yates Talks 'Potter' Series, Rowling And More In New Interview

In a new interview, Harry Potter director David Yates talks about bringing the series to a close.

He discusses the final day of filming, how he has survived directing four massive blockbusters in a row, J.K. Rowling's involvement, including her role as producer on Deathly Hallows - Part 2.

"You know, it hasn't really changed from the other movies, honestly. She's just always our biggest supporter. And always very graceful and kind and I think, because she's been there throughout, it was time her name was up there. She wants to be up there with us; it's a real privilege."

On realize the magnitude of the fan base:

"It was probably a phase in the cycle around about this stage when you do your interviews and you meet the press and walk up the red carpet. Obviously, you notice the fact that it’s globally popular, but it’s just when the fans come from Mexico or Argentina and camp out all night, you realize what it means to them. And it’s a huge responsibility, actually. Also, there are massive expectations on every movie, and in a curious way, you do your very best with the film. And I’m very proud of this film.".

'Harry Potter' Adventures to Get All-Nighter at BFI IMAX

two nights.

LONDON – Harry Potter fans will be wide-eyed in wonderment as the BFI IMAX theater and Warner Bros. Pictures team up for plans to unspool all seven adventures to date across two nights for audiences here.

The BFI IMAX complex in central London will play host to all seven pictures over two nights on two weekends with the same program repeated over the second weekend.

The program kicks off Friday June 17 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

Then on Saturday, June 18 it resumes with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010).

Fans will get the chance to do it all again on June 24, 25.

BFI IMAX said it plans to serve free tea and coffee during the 30-minute intervals between each film “to help everyone stay awake all night long.”

And fans are invited to dress up in their most imaginative wizarding outfits, as each night prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

BFI IMAX head of operations Justin Johnson noted that should theatergoers plump for all seven installments, they’d spend “almost 20 hours in the company of all their favorite characters! “

Tickets are priced up to £29.50 ($48) (adults) but brave bookers for both screenings are being offered a joint ticket, saving £10 ($16) on the full price adult ticket.

The move comes ahead of the world rollout of the eighth and final installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, from July 15.

Daniel Radcliffe to Sing at the Tony Awards

Announcing his performance at the Tony Awards, Radcliffe commented, "I think we're one of the first, if not the first." Emma Watson: 'I Wanted To Pretend I Wasn't As Famous As I Was'

Here's a short interview with Emma Watson from OMG! on Yahoo! Emma discusses how fame has been hitting her lately and why she temporarily left Brown University. Thanks so much to our Hogwarts mate Sylvia for the heads up! :-D

The recent widespread reports that "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson left Brown University due to bullying were a bit hard to take. The 21-year-old seems pretty well-adjusted and easy-going and it seemed sad to think that mean-spirited taunts would derail her entire life.

So we feel relieved to find out that this was, in fact, not what led to Emma's departure.

"It made me so sad when all this stuff came out that I left Brown because I was being bullied. It made no sense at all. Brown has been the opposite. I've never even been asked for an autograph on campus. I threw a party for nearly 100 students and not a single person put a photo on Facebook," she told the Sunday Times Style Magazine.

She did indicate, though, that there may have been a few foolish Brown students who occasionally gave her a hard time.

"Anyway, even if I was being given a hard time, I wasn't going to wuss out of university because someone said 'Wingardium leviosa' to me in a corridor, or 'Ten points for Gryffindor,'" she said. "I've been dealing with the media since I was nine. If I can't stand up to a few people giving me a hard time, it's a bit pathetic, really. I've had so much worse."

Watson admitted that she may have miscalculated how easily she'd be able to have a "normal" college existence.

"I was in denial," she told the magazine. "I wanted to pretend I wasn't as famous as I was. I was trying to seek out normality, but I kind of have to accept who I am, the position I'm in and what happened."

And if you imagine that the beautiful Watson is overrun with suitors and dates, it turns out that, surprisingly, that is not the case.

"I say to my friends, 'Why hasn't X called me? Why doesn't anyone ever pursue me?' They're like, 'Probably because they're intimidated.' It must be the fame wall," she said. "It must be the circus that goes around me. Me, as a person, I find it hard to believe I would be intimidating... Sometimes, maybe because they feel intimidated, they feel they have to knock me down. They know perfectly well who I am, but they'll ask me, 'How are the Narnia films going?'... I'm single at the minute."

Somehow we find ourselves feeling bad for Watson now. Will some nice, normal, non-wisecracking guy please ask her out?

The U.K. network ITV is preparing a show about the "50 Greatest Harry Potter Moments" which they plan to air in July to coincide with the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2."

Fans are encouraged to vote for some of their favorite moments via the Harry Potter UK Facebook page. Included in the list are scenes like the destruction of the Millennium Bridge in "Half-Blood Prince," the Seven Harrys in "Deathly Hallows - Part 1," and Hagrid telling Harry he's a wizard in the"Sorcerer's Stone."

Review: 'Dear Mr. Potter' Is A Must-Read As We Near The Final Potter Film Release

The following is a review of Dear Mr. Potter, a book of letters written by Harry Potter fans who reflect on what the series has done for them.

Dear Mr. Potter is a Chicken Soup for the Harry Potter fan's soul. It's a recollection of the fandom over the years and makes you realize how many fans were impacted by the series. The stories are all quite personal, which makes for an emotional read. There's no doubt in my mind that fans will be pleasantly surprised by the truthful stories and powerful messages found on every page!

I happily contributed to the book and a couple other friends did as well. Evanna Lynch wrote an adorable letter to Luna, and it makes you realize how alike the two people really are. She is a true fan of the series just like everyone who reads this book, and it was fantastic seeing her being a part of this compilation.

Melissa Anelli, who I've worked with over the years, shares a very touching story that I'm glad she shared. By reading stories like Melissa's you'll see how everyone has a personal reason why Harry Potter has meant so much to them, and it's truly heartwarming to hear each one.

It's a must-read at this interesting time in the Potter fandom where we're about to experience our final movie release.

Moments ago, Harry Potter actress Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) debuted an exclusive new clip from the forthcoming "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" film at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. The 75 second clip features a slightly longer look at the moment where Harry enters the forest to meet face to face with Lord Voldemort. The clip then rolls into previously seen footage from the previously released first trailer from the film. We expect the full video to appear online shortly, and will update here when we have it.

Evanna Lynch to Appear at LeakyCon 2011!

Leaky and LeakyCon are what can only be described as totally-freakin'-thrilled to announce that Evanna Lynch, who plays Luna Lovegood, will be joning the festivities at LeakyCon 2011, our conference in Orlando, Fl, next month.

In 2006 Evanna Lynch answered an open casting call for the role of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films, and her life was changed forever. She went from being one of the series' most ardent fans to the cinematic personification of one of the fans' favorite characters. She was 14, and had only acted in school plays before; she took to the role with a level of passion and spirit only a true fan can apply. She has played Luna in the final half of the Potter films to acclaim by fans and critics alike, and remains one of Harry Potter's most enthusiastic supporters.

Evanna has also turned her creativity to fashion, bringing to life Luna's famous radish earrings as well as designing the lion hat worn by Luna in the sixth film. She has actively supported charity efforts such as the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland and the HP Alliance, speaking out on issues of self-esteem and body image. She is currently finishing her studies and is excited to continue her acting career after Harry Potter.

JK Rowling Dicusses Life-Changing Books, eBooks and More in New Interview

The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge. The tone is perfect; a seamless mix of the fairy-tale and the real. It also has a plain heroine, which delighted me beyond words as a child, because I was a very plain little girl and I hadn’t met many literary heroines who weren’t breathtakingly pretty. The opening paragraphs of The Little White Horse have stayed with me all my life. Goudge says that there are three kinds of people in this world: those who find consolation in food, those who find consolation in literature, and those who find consolation in personal adornment.

I know I read Little Women when I was eight, because we moved house shortly afterwards, when I was nine. Naturally, I whole-heartedly identified with Jo March, she of the burning literary ambition and short temper. My mother had everything Georgette Heyer ever wrote, so I whipped through those, too, when I was a pre-teen, and I FINALLY found a plain heroine there, too (Phoebe, in ‘Sylvester’, who also – hooray! - happened to be a writer).

Basically, I lived for books, and was sustained by literary characters with whom I could identify – I was your basic, common-or-garden bookworm, complete with freckles and National Health spectacles.

Ebooks - Nemesis or Genesis?

Genesis. There’s no point trying to hold back progress, but print will never die; there’s no substitute for the feel of an actual book. I adore physically turning pages, and being able to underline passages and not worrying about dropping them in the bath or running out of power. I also find print books objects of beauty, and I don’t speak as a precious, first-edition-mustn’t-crack-the-spine-type collector, but as somebody who loves a shiny new paperback, and the smell of second-hand books.

However, there are times when e-books are a Godsend. We forgot to pack my youngest a bedtime book when we were away last year, and I truly appreciated the magic of being able to download one in seconds! This summer will be the first time that I take away fifty e-books to read while we’re on holiday, rather than filling up my suitcase with print books.

Which word or phrase do you overuse – in writing or in life?

I’m not proud to say that it’s probably swearwords in every day life. Writing the Harry Potter books, I got sick to death of the words ‘passage’, ‘corridor’ and all others relating to my heroes’ endless movement around Hogwarts castle.

'Potter' Producer David Heyman to Receive 'Producer of the Decade' Honor

He will receive the 'Producer of the Decade' award for his work on the franchise.

Says organizers:

EA Games has released a brand new trailer for the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" video game, which comes out this summer. Describing the character-based trailer, EA writes:

This new trailer introduces the characters that players will be able to play to assist Harry Potter as he battles to save Hogwarts. Now, Amazon has the Ultimate Edition DVD's for both Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince available for pre-order.

Yahoo! has debuted four new behind-the-scenes features from "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" and interviews with the cast.

A fun feature about the Weasley family can be seen here. James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) recall the first time they met their on-screen mom, Julie Walters (Mrs. Weasley), while Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) reflects on the influence director Chris Columbus had on the Weasley family in the first two films.

Teaser Trailer Released for "The Woman in Black" Starring Daniel Radcliffe, Release Date Pushed Back (Updated with Download Links)

IGN today posted a teaser trailer for the new film adaptation of "The Woman in Black", which stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) as Arthur Kipps. You can watch the trailer embedded below or at this link on the IGN website. The trailer can also be seen on YouTube.

The Woman in Black was originally a 1983 novel by Susan Hill and a stage play adaptation of the thriller has been running in London's West End since 1989. The film - directed by James Watkins and also starring Aberforth actor Ciaran Hinds - is set to be released in February of 2012 in the UK, pushed back from the original October 2011 release.

Radcliffe's character, Arthur Kipps, is a young lawyer who glimpses a woman dressed entirely in black as he works in the isolated home of a recently deceased client.

Lynch, Lewis Promote 'Deathly Hallows - Part 1' DVD Release on ITV's Daybreak

Earlier this morning Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) appeared on ITV's Daybreak to promote today's UK release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 on Blu-ray and DVD.

Why Emma Wore Wig for Final Film

Emma Watson has revealed that she had to wear a wig to film some of the scenes in the latest Potter movie.

She plays Hermione Granger in the Potter series, who is famous for her long curly hair.

But when the cast had to re-shoot some of the final scenes at the end of 2010 Emma had already cut off her long hair.

She said: "I did have to wear a wig, but you'd never know. I will be amazed if anyone can tell where that scene slots in."

Emma said she was really excited about the last film in the Potter series.

She said: "It looks incredible - I'm always biased but the ending looks epic. I'm very excited."

The final Harry Potter film, Harry potter and the Deathly Hallows II is released in July.

MTV has learned that a documentary was shot on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows while cast and crew were filming. They report:

Producers David Heyman and David Baron revealed to MTV News that Morgan Matthews, an award-winning British filmmaker, shot a documentary on the set of "Deathly Hallows" that will be coming out after the final installment of the franchise itself. "He went behind the scenes and had incredible access to talent and crew and has made a documentary that is not yet complete, which shows the challenges of making the film — the tolls it takes on actors and crew," Baron said. "It's not just pure gloss and everybody's happy. It's real. ... At the same time, it's really, really funny."

NYLON Interview Bonnie Wright: "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" Battle Scene Like Destroying a Sand Castle You've Built

NYLON magazine has a new interview with Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) in which the actress talks about reading the Harry Potter books, filming the final battle scenes and what she's studying at film school. Bonnie also mentioned going to see co-star Daniel Radcliffe in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and talked at length about her fashion, makeup and music interests.

On how it felt to destroy Hogwarts:

Interviewer: But I can't wait for the part in the last film where your mother yells at Bellatrix, "Get away from my daughter, you bitch!"

Bonnie: Oh that whole scene is going to be so good. In fact, what's so great about the last film is that all the good guys bring up their game. They're like, "Actually, we'll really fight now; we're not afraid to cause damage." It's so much fun, and the best part is, we get to destroy Hogwarts!... I guess people could think that's sad, but for a lot of us, it was strangely cathartic. Like, "This has been amazing, now let's blow it up." It's kind of like when you build a sand castle and you break it down.

On not getting the Harry Potter books before anyone else:

[T]he most grating thing I've ever seen in a movie is in The Devil Wears Prada, when those two little kids get the Harry Potter books ahead of time. I was like, "Are you kidding? That would never, ever, ever happen!" [JK Rowling] is so guarded, and she always wants everything to be released at the exact same time. Even the international translators would only get the books when they were already on sale, so nothing leaked out. Everybody - I mean everybody, Dan, Emma, everyone - had to wait just like you.

On "How to Succeed":

I'm actually seeing Dan [Radcliffe] in How to Succeed Tonight! I'm quite excited because he has to sing and dance, and people don't realize he's been practicing for like two years. Anytime he had free time on the Harry Potter set, he'd be singing and dancing. People don't realize when Dan wants to do something, he tries to do it two hundred percent. I'm dying to see the show.

New "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" Featurettes Explore Animation and Snatcher Sequences

Empire Online has published two exclusive clips from the Blu-ray bonus features of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1."

In the first clip, producer David Heyman takes us behind-the-scenes in the making of the animation sequence for the Tale of the Three Brothers. Actor Nick Moran (Scabior) then talks about the forest chase scene with the Snatchers and why it's important to have good footwear for such a sequence.

Potter Producers Heyman and Barron on "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" Changes, Additions, and Spoilers

CinemaBlend has a report online from last week's CinemaCon event, which included a discussion with Harry Potter film producers David Heyman and David Barron. In addition to the much talked about four minute collection of footage from the film, the producers spoke at length about the second half of the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" film. In the Q&A, which can be heard and read in its entirety here, Mr. Heyman and Mr. Barron discuss alterations made to the final battle elements of the film, as well as speak to the reshoots done for the Epilogue scene last winter. Below is a small portion of the lengthy Q&A. As always, beware of movie specific spoilers!

In the footage we saw today, there's a scene of Snape and McGonagall facing off in the Great Hall, which I don't remember happening at all in the book.

They do face off, but it's not in the Great Hall. There are a lot of things there that are slightly different from the book, but they are true to the spirit to the book. Snape and McGonagall do face off in the book, but it's in a corridor as Harry's on his way to the Ravenclaw common room. It didn't work the way we were structuring the final battle to have that, so it takes place in the Great Hall. We also wanted to make a bigger scene of Harry's confrontation with Snape. Snape's role in the film is minimal, and it was minimal in the second half of the book, and yet you wanted to have the emotional investment when you see his past story [the memory Harry views in the Pensieve]. We wanted to build that up in order for it to have its emotional impact.

So the Pensieve moment stays in too?

Yes, that and Dumbledore [at King's Cross]. But what I love about these films, what I love about the books, is that all the action, adventure and magic, what means most to me is the character stuff, the slow stuff. I love having the time to tell the story. I'm really happy about breaking the book into two films, it gives us the time to really spend time with the characters and have the moments such as the flashback, Dumbledore at King's Cross. If we had done it as one film, we would have lost the Snape flashback.

Do you keep the desks that Professor McGonagall is instructing to charge?

No, we didn't.

Oh, I loved the desks!

I liked the desks too, but if you think about it, in a film which has grown up, that's kind of juvenile. It's like Peter Pettigrew strangling himself [which happened in the seventh book but was cut from the film]. It's great in the book, but really hard on film. Those things don't translate as well when the films are growing up.

When you went back and reshot the epilogue at the end of the film, was it mostly tweaking the makeup effects?

It was a couple of reasons. One it was the makeup, that was the first thing. The other was, to be honest, we were limited by shooting at King's Cross. It really limited our ability to block. And in terms of performance, these little kids, some of who weren't actors, were drowned by the noise of the trains, the announcements. That was really a problem. When we filmed it back at the studio, we brought the trains to the studio and filled the station in digitally. It's really beautiful.

'Harry Potter' E-Book Release May Become Reality

The Harry Potter series as e-books has taken a new step towards becoming a reality today, with The Scotsman reporting that J.K. Rowling is "actively considering" releasing the books in the digital format.

Ms Rowling's agent has confirmed that the author, who had ruled out making the books available electronically for years, was now actively considering plans for e-book versions.

Liz Thomson, editor of book industry website BookBrunch, said: "I wouldn't be surprised if the rights for the e-books are sold for £100m.

"Experts believe that move could revolutionise the world of electronic publishing, triggering rocket sales of e-book readers such as Kindle and the iPad."

While no official plans have been made regarding Harry Potter e-books, this shows a significant step in that direction, as Rowling has been reluctant in the past to release the beloved book series on the electronic platform.

Emma Watson Debuts Final Collection for People Tree

The Telegraph has published a preview for Emma Watson's (Hermione Granger) third and final collection for People Tree, the fair trade clothing organization she has been collaborating with since 2009.

Miss Watson said she began designing the outfits shortly after beginning university in the U.S.

"Safia, People Tree's founder, and Misato, People Tree's designer, came out to work with me in Rhode Island. Together we decided on all the colours, fabrics, shapes and craft skills. Most of all, we took care to design a really wearable collection that truly celebrates the traditional skills of People Tree's fair trade groups around the world."

Twelve items from the collection are currently on sale through the People Tree website. A photo of the actress modeling one of the dresses can be seen in the Telegraph.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Richard Griffiths (Vernon Dursley) were in attendance on Tuesday at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards. The ceremony took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London and was broadcast later in the evening on the Sky Arts channel.

"Deathly Hallows: Part 1" Nominated for Two Academy Awards (Updated)

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this morning released the nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" was nominated for two Oscars.

The film is up for the Art Direction award, facing competition from "Alice in Wonderland", "Inception", "The King's Speech" and "True Grit". Named in the nomination are Stuart Craig (Production Design) and Stephenie McMillan (Set Decoration).

"Deathly Hallows: Part 1" was also nominated in the Visual Effects category. Named in the nomination are Tim Burke, John Richardson, Christian Manz and Nicolas Aithadi. Also nominated in the same category are "Alice in Wonderland", "Hereafter", "Inception" and "Iron Man 2".

In a new interview with The Independent, the actress who will play The Grey Lady in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 reveals she was originally asked to play Tonks in Order of the Phoenix:

In her comfy knitwear and bright-orange trousers, the small, young-looking and low-key Macdonald looks more like a student than the woman who has quietly become one of the best actresses of her generation. She's just finished shooting the part of the Grey Lady in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Unassuming as ever, she thinks director David Yates was doing her a favour "as he's knocked me back a couple to times to play [the Order of the Phoenix member] Tonks in the Harry Potter films".

'Harry Potter' Art Director: Snape's Death Scene Changed

In a new interview with Cine Premiere Mexico, Andrew Ackland-Snow, the art director for the Harry Potter series, divulged new information which states that (with the approval of J.K. Rowling) the death of Severus Snape has changed.

SPOILER WARNING! READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO KNOW THE PARTICULARS OF THIS STORY!

"We wanted to change a bit where Snape dies. In the book, he dies on the Shrieking Shack, and we wanted to get him out from, not a conventional interior, but from that kind of box, to do it in a more dramatic atmosphere. We asked J.K. if she agreed for that to happen in there, because we hadn't really seen it before. We made a crystal house, and you can see what happens in the boat house from there - Are you listening Harry? -, but also the school is in flames...and she loved it. Besides, it's a very romantic place to die. Snape dies in a extremely good way, I gotta say."

How, and if, this change will affect the film and plot has yet to be seen, but with J.K. Rowling's approval, and David Yates' track record, the change shouldn't be particularly drastic to the story.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is scheduled to be released on July 15, 2011.

Helena Bonham Carter Talks About The "Terrifying" Bellatrix Lestrange

A new profile from the LA Times Hero Complex blog focuses on Helena Bonham Carter and her infamous portrayal of Bellatrix Lestrange in the "Harry Potter" films.

The actress talks about her career and family, but also explains how she developed Bellatrix's character for the films.

“Bellatrix has really good fun, and she’s been a bit of surprise to me, in fact,” Bonham Carter said. “It wasn’t really there on the page. When I took it on, I found there wasn’t a huge amount to go by in the script, and I read the book and she wasn’t necessarily on the page there either, so I did ask [director] David Yates if I could bring a bit of other things or are these the Bibles? And he said yes, certainly, and apparently J.K. Rowling was very pleased with it when she saw it, and the childish dimension and the fact that she’s totally savage, that was a bit of departure.”

"I just felt she had to make an impression because there wasn’t much time in which to do so. And she had to be terrifying. She needed to be somebody you didn’t know what to feel towards. One moment she’s horribly revolting but then also weirdly sexy, maybe, or just disturbing to the mind when you watch her. There’s a lot of decaying, too, with the bad teeth. She’s been in prison for so long. The mad hair. She’s someone who has seen better times but still carries herself with the memory of what she was."

Bonham Carter also praises the crew working on the Harry Potter films and likens the experience to belonging to a "nice tribe."

“I love going back year after year. It’s refreshing. A lot of times in this business, it’s so transitory — it’s just 10 weeks here or there on a movie and then it’s over – but to see the same people over all that time, a decade, makes you feel really safe and secure. It was fantastically well-organized, the [assistant directors] are simply unbelievable, the best...It has been perfect for me, and I will miss it.”

Emma Watson Discusses Life at Brown University, Dan Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, and More

The Daily Mail has a new article about Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), where she discusses many things, among them her experience thus far at Brown University:

On the first day at her US university - chosen over Cambridge because the latter was 'a bit Hogwarts-looking' - Emma Watson was bombarded by autograph hunters.

She was caught so unawares that she couldn't contain her shock: 'Everyone looked at me horrified, like, "Oh my God, what's wrong with her?"'

So how did she deal with the unwanted autograph hunters, once she had overcome her initial shock? In typical Emma Watson (and Hermione) style, it appears - with quiet determination.

She dusted herself down and decided that she would proceed as planned, on her terms. 'I just said, "I'm really sorry, but I'm here to study and I just want to be a student. Would it be OK if I don't sign, because you'll be seeing me around all the time anyway?"'

The fact that she has now completed her first year of studies is clearly something of a triumph, not least, she admits, because not a single shot of her in the shared uni bathroom has made its way onto the internet.

'One morning I was walking down the corridor from the bathroom in just a towel and I thought I must be mad, anyone could just snap me,' she says, laughing. 'But no one did. Not even when I had my birthday party. 100 people came, and not one person put a picture on Facebook.'

Watson also discusses how she thinks Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) have changed since she first met them, and the differences in her relationship with both of them:

She remains close to both Rupert and Daniel, and seems bemused by how they have both developed.

'It's funny, they've both gone completely opposite ways. At the beginning Rupert was very confident, really chatty, very outgoing, and Dan was the quiet shy one.

'I remember at the first press conference, he was so overwhelmed by the whole thing. Now, you can't shut Dan up. He's telling jokes, he's got this incredible energy. Rupert's gone quiet. He's much more reserved.

'We are like siblings. If I'm feeling a bit anxious or I need to talk something over with someone, Dan's the one I'll go to. We had this great weekend once. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere in Scotland in this castle.

'We were both meant to be in bed and I sneaked into Dan's room and stayed up watching movies all night, drinking Coke and eating M&Ms from the minibar.

'Rupert's the guy I go to when I want to be relaxed and have a good laugh. His dressing room is like a child's wonderland with every kind of game, every kind of sweet, every kind of whatever you can imagine. I go to him if I want to snuggle up on the sofa and watch television.'

Watson also talks about the adult actors on the set of Harry Potter and what she learned from them:

She cites Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Thompson as her role models.

'I learned from Emma how to behave on a set. She remembers everyone's name, she's incredibly courteous and considerate, and she makes everyone laugh.

'It's up to the leading actors and actresses to set the tone on a film set, and the first time I saw Emma I remember thinking, "That's the kind of actress I want to be."'

Indeed, when filming finished, Emma Watson bought all the crew members a Smythson leather notebook engraved with her thanks and a quote from Dickens:

'The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.' Emma Thompson would surely have approved.

Dan Radcliffe Talks About Differences Between "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" and "Deathly Hallows: Part 2"

Now that "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" is in theatres, Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) has further elaborated on the differences between "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" and "Deathly Hallows: Part 2":

"The last movie is going to be really, really fast-paced and a load of action in it, and it is like a war film," Radcliffe told Reuters. "If we had done this book in one film, the stuff that would have got cut is most of this film."

However, it's Part 1 that the actor finds more appealing because it contains the most character development.

"Part 1, Radcliffe added, is "so sedate compared to what the next one is going to be like. The next film, because you've had all the plot set up already, you can just kind of enjoy the insanity of all the action."

Radcliffe also said that the cast and crew felt a tremendous amount of pressure to get the final two films just right. As a result, some scenes were being rewritten the day before they were shot.

"It was constantly moving and had a less settled feel than the other ones had had," he said.

Deathly Hallows Part 1 opened Friday with a franchise-best $125.1 million bow, winning the weekend. Part 2 is scheduled to open in July. ABC Family recently acquired TV rights to both movies.

Tom Felton Going Back to Leavesden Studios to Do Reshoots

LA Times HeroComplex blog is reporting that Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) will be returning to Leavesden Studios to do a single day of reshoots:

“I got the call today,” Felton said Tuesday. “I have to go back for one more day of reshoots. So I’m going back in a couple weeks to do, literally, one more day.”

The “Harry Potter” co-star, who has spent nearly half his life in the role of Draco Malfoy, said he will return to the blond-and-sneering persona for a single day of reshoots for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2,” the eighth and final film in the franchise. That film is due in theaters next summer; the final day of principal photography was last June and post-production is well underway. But at last week’s New York premiere of the seventh film there was considerable chatter about the three main stars - Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint -having been notified that they need to come back to Leavesden Film Studios just outside London for a bit more time in front of the camera. Now Felton is another Hogwarts student going back to wizarding school for a bit of post-graduate work.

“I knew that Dan, Rupert and Emma were called in and I was enjoying that, I was joking that, ‘Oh, I got it on the first take so I don’t need any of that, going back to do it again.’ And here I am eating my own words and going back to redo it. They just want to get a couple of extra camera shots. I don’t think anything was done wrong, they just want to cover it more. It could literally be a case of panning the shot five degrees to the left or whatever just to make sure the CGI shot work. So I’m going to go and serve my duty.”

Jason Isaacs Discusses the Creation of Lucius Malfoy for the Films

In an Entertainment Weekly article, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy) discusses how he initially put together the character of Lucius Malfoy in the first Harry Potter film he appeared in, "Chamber of Secrets." Isaacs talks about the contributions he made to the character's costume (which includes the wig) and his accent:

“I went to the set, and they had this idea of me wearing a pinstripe suit, short black-and-white hair,” Isaacs recalls. “I was slightly horrified. He was a racist, a eugenicist. There’s no way he would cut his hair like a Muggle, or dress like a Muggle.” So Isaacs suggested instead that he wear a long white wig, and a particularly ostentatious wizard-like ensemble. “In order to keep the hair straight, I had to tip my head back, so I was looking down my nose at everyone. There was 50 percent of the character. I asked for a walking stick, which [Chamber of Secrets director] Chris Columbus first thought was because I had something wrong with my leg. I explained I wanted it as an affectation so I can pull my wand out [of the cane]. After a second’s thought, he said, ‘You know what, I think the toy guys are going to love you.’ He was completly right.”

Next: Malfoy’s accent. “There’s a particular art critic in England who has a voice like fingernails on a blackboard,” says Isaacs, who in real life has a far more accessible, slightly working class London accent. “I combined him with a teacher I thought was patronizing and sadistic when I was in drama school. To me what [the accent] smacks of is a sense of entitlement. I just wanted to find a voice that made him drip with the millennia that his family had been in power — complete disdain and contempt for anybody and everything else.”

Warner Bros. Announces Leavesden Studios Plans and Potter Set Tours in 2012

Warner Bros. have revealed their plans to redevelop Leavesden Studios into a "state-of-the-art filmmaking hub" and provide fans with behind-the-scenes tours of the Harry Potter sets.

Leavesden Studios which is located in Hertfordshire, England, has been home to the Harry Potter films for the past decade.

As part of the renovations, two new soundstages will be built to hold sets used in the Harry Potter films as well as numerous other film memorabilia. The behind-the-scenes tours of these soundstages are tentatively scheduled to begin around Easter 2012.

Early concept art of the new Leavesden can be seen at Empire Online.

Barry Meyer, Warner Bros. chairman and CEO expressed his excitement over the new project, saying:

"Our multi-million pound investment in creating a state-of-the-art, permanent UK film production base further demonstrates our long-term commitment to the skills and creativity of the UK film industry."

The project is expected to cost £100m, and will provide 300 new jobs in the filmmaking industry. In the past, Leavesden has also been used to film scenes from "The Dark Knight" and "Inception," both also Warner Bros. films.

Moviefone Visits the Set of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I'

Moviefone visited the set of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' and spoke to actors Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), and directer David Yates.

'Deathly Hallows: Part I' is the first in the two-part adaptation of the final Harry Potter book. The second part arrives July 2011.

The young actors talked about their feelings on the penultimate film of the series and on saying goodbye to the Potter franchise. Radcliffe also touched on how Harry has changed as a character throughout the series as he -- as both an actor and a character -- has grown up.

"The whole series for me is about loss of innocence and about Harry going from this kind of wide-eyed child ... into this slightly grizzled young man by the end of it," Radcliffe told Moviefone's Mike Hess. "Although as I was saying to people the other day, it is essential that he does not turn into a man necessarily in the film, because what makes all that fight stuff at the end so powerful and so kind of horrible to watch is the fact that you're seeing a kid get beaten up by a very strong, very angry man."

'Deathly Hallows' marks the end of Harry's lifelong battle with the evil Lord Voldemort.
