Teen wizard Harry Potter is more famous in America than Prime Minister Tony Blair, according to a survey.57% of people asked could pick out JK Rowling's boy hero while just 50% recognised Britain's top politician.
Six out of 10 questioned could name Homer Simpson's son as Bart and three-quarters could name two of Snow White's seven dwarfs.
But the Americans struggled to name their top judges or the work of legendary classic poet Homer.
Professor Robert Thompson said the findings did not mean that Americans were dumb. He said that certain information was more difficult to remember, particularly things from the government, educational institutions and the media.
