New GOF Interviews and Pics in 'Nickelodeon'

Daniel Radcliffe is featured on the cover of the latest edition of Nickelodeon Magazine, which includes new pictures and interviews on the inside pages. A new interview with Dan along with several new pictures of him are featured on a two-page spread on pages 80 and 81. He said:

"There's this scene where I'm sliding down roof tiles. I'm not even going to pretend to be a macho man: It was terrifying. I was at the top of a sixty-foot fake roof, on a wire. Then they just let go of the wire, and I would fall to the crash mats at the bottom, sort of free-falling. I started to actually enjoy it, but at the beginning, it was quite scary."

New interviews with Emma Watson, Katie Leung, and Stan Ianevski are featured on the next page. Thanks to the EW Forums for the scans!

Ralph Fiennes Talks About Voldemort

IGN Film Force talked to Ralph Fiennes about the role of Voldemort. You can read the entire interview here, but check out the short preview below and beware of spoilers in the full article for those of you who have not read Goblet of Fire.

* * * * * * * *

You can't have a great movie hero without a good nemesis. And so for the forthcoming film version of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, filmmakers knew they had to bring in an actor with some serious chops to fill the role of the evil Lord Voldemort. After all, the fourth installment in the fantasy film series is, for all intents and purposes, Voldemort's coming out party.

Ultimately, Brit thesp Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient, Red Dragon, The Constant Gardener) was chosen for the role -- a proven actor with striking angular facial features that just say "evil." Despite his extensive experience, Fiennes says the role was still a challenge for him.

"It's quite hard to play someone who is is the essence of evil," says Ralph Fiennes. "In my discussions with Mike about the character, we talked about giving Voldemort human qualities, because to just play 'evil' is really impossible. 'Evil' is often conveyed through gnashing of teeth and a lot of spit. I wanted my portrayal of Voldemort to be deeply, truly evil. That comes from fear, frustration and unhappiness. Voldemort was a rejected child. He had a very unhappy childhood, and that's where his anger, jealousy and hatred began to fester."

UK Goblet Film Rating, Trailer News

In the UK Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has now been officially given a 12A rating. Here in the US, Goblet is rated PG-13. CBBC Newsround reports

"Examiners decided that the 12A was the most suitable category, as younger or more sensitive viewers could be frightened by some of the more intense scenes (which I can't reveal as you'd get upset with me!).

"The ending was a shock too, although maybe if you have read the books, you'll be expecting it anyway. At 12A, we allow moderate level violence, but without focus on injuries or blood."

There is also an interview with one of the examiners who rated the film, who had this to say about the changes in the films over the years.

"You can really spot the differences in the four films. The first one, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was classified back in October 2001 and Harry and his friends were so sweet and innocent then!

"As the characters have become teenagers and are more experienced in magic, the tone of the films has become darker, the moments of intensity more frequent and there are far fewer jokes and lighter moments. The result is that this is the first Harry Potter film at 12A. Be prepared for a very different film to the first three!"

Finally, reader Julian let us know that there is apparently a new trailer or commercial due to be airing in the UK, as there was a new spot recently rated on the British Board of Film Classification website. "Trailer 4", as it is listed, has a running time of 33 seconds. Anyone with video or caps, please let us know! Thanks Julian!

Tons of Goblet of Fire Images

Scanners all over the world have been going full tilt lately. More and more GoF images are materializing on the web scanned from various versions of the GoF 2006 calendars. Also magazine articles about GoF are coming out hot and heavy now. These contain images from the film too.

So there are too many images floating around for me to include all the links for them here. However, I will point you in the right direction to see them. I'm also going to feature a few of my favorite ones with links. So here we go...
Muggle Net has tons of images. You'll need to scroll down their homepage to find all the links, but it's worth it.

The Leaky Cauldron has their images together in their gallery section. So all you have to do is click on the navigation links on the left-hand side of the gallery webpage.

Veritaserum also have their GoF images in a gallery section. Lots of good images there.

And here are my three favorites from the recent rash of GoF images:
Behind the scenes pic of Mike Newell, Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, and Alan Rickman. Rickman is in costume as Prof. Snape, but he got this big smile on his face as he laughs with others. It's very strange to see Prof. Snape laughing with Harry!

Another of my favorites is this pic of Ron and Harry smiling. You don't get to see Ron smile very much in this film I'm afraid, so it's nice to see him and Harry smiling.

And my very favorite of the new pictures is this one of Ron and Pig. If you don't know who or what Pig is, then take a look at this photo. They look great together and I'm soooo glad to see that Pig has finally made it into the films. He should have appeared in Prisoner of Azkaban, but he didn't. I'm glad to see that he's in Goblet of Fire.

Well that's the GoF images update for now. As always, be careful of spoilers if you don't want to see some of the important plot events of movie. Enjoy!

Boys Not a Priority for 'Potter' Star Watson

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Although Emma Watson's character Hermione may have her pick of boys for the dance in the upcoming "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," but in real life, the young star has no time for boyfriends.

The 15-year-old actress has been shooting back-to-back "Harry Potter" films since the first began shooting in late 2000 in London.

"This is my life: I live two hours from [the 'Harry Potter' studios], in Oxford, so I get up at six in the morning and I'm gone until nine at night, and I do this for eleven months of the year," says Watson, according to published reports. "And, if I'm not here, I'm back at school trying to catch up on all the work I've missed, playing on all the teams I can get myself onto, and I'm trying to see my family and friends. So boys come pretty low down the list.

"Not only is there high demand for the popular books-turned-films, but the intense schedule is necessary in order for the young actors not to outgrow their roles. Each of the installments follows one year in the life of the titular boy wizard and his pals at the Hogwarts school.

"It's restricting. Long hours. I miss my family a lot," says the starlet. "But if I had the chance to do it again, in a million years I would always say yes. I'm so lucky."
"Goblet of Fire" is the fourth part of author J.K. Rowling's seven-part series and centers on the three-school Tri-Wizard Tournament. The film is scheduled to be released worldwide on Nov. 18.

Straight from Durmstrang: Tolga Safer, Karkaroff's Aide

As you've probably noticed from pictures, Igor Karkaroff's movie incarnation travels around with an aide. We recently had the chance to interview the actor who plays him, Tolga Safer, who shared some great inside stories about working on set, Mike Newell, how he got his role, what his role actually is, and more. Enjoy - click the link to read the whole thing!

How did you get cast in Goblet?
I was originally seen for the part of “Viktor Krum” around Christmas 2003. I then went and met Mike Newell (Director) and the casting directors Mary Selway and Fiona Weir for a second time at the film studios. Two weeks later my agent phoned me and told me they were going with someone else for Viktor Krum but that Mike liked my auditions and that a part had been created and offered to me, the part of Aide to Professor Karkaroff.

Were you a Harry Potter fan beforehand?
Definitely. I was a big fan of both the books and the films, that’s why it was the most amazing time of my life working on and being part of this movie. Check out the rest of the interview on The Leaky Cauldron.

Additional Magazine Articles on Goblet of Fire

There are two more magazine articles out now to add to your collection on the upcoming Goblet of Fire movie; Sci Fi and House & Garden. The December issue of "Sci Fi" magazine has a feature on Goblet of Fire called "Playing with Fire." Most of the interviews with Potter actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson we have seen previously, and there are no new photos. There is this tidbit however, from Daniel Radcliffe, discussing how he felt when he met the musicians playing the Weird Sisters band. "I was so overly excited to to meet them, particularly Jarvis Cocker, I think I smiled a bit stupidly and made really cheesy jokes, I think. I can't really remember; it's all a bit of a blur, because I was kind of so almost overwhelmed to meet them." This magazine is available now.

Update: Dijares from Harry Potter's Page, let us know he has posted scans of the Sci Fi article here. There are also additional scans from Starlog magazine, which also covers much of the same information, but also includes a piece about the actors growing up through the course of making the four Potter movies. Thanks Dijares!

House & Garden, which had an excellent feature previously about the set of Prisoner of Azkaban, is also promoting the fantastic set of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. In the Editor's Picks section on their website they have a small photo of the Yule ball set and say the following:

Icy Cool: Stuart Craig's set design for the last Harry Potter film impressed all of us here at House & Garden and won him an Oscar nomination. This time, Craig devines an equally creative and decoratively beautiful set, including the incredible ice sculpture-filled dining hall and crystalline table settings, bottom left. You can check out the sets for yourself when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire comes out on November 18th.

Anyone with scans from the November issue of House & Garden, please send them in!

New Matthew Lewis Interview

Matt Lewis (Neville Longbottom) was at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Sydney, Australia yesterday and will be again today. Cruticus of Harry Potter's Page caught up with the actor and asked him a few questions:

Q: Have you met JK Rowling? I mean, being a great author that she is, she would have been a great guest?

ML: Oh yeah, I’ve met her a few times. The first time I don’t think I could physically speak ‘cause it was amazing ‘cause like you said, she is one of my favourite authors. And I was just a huge fan of Harry Potter, and it was great to meet her, and she’s actually really, really nice. She just spoke to us all individually and we had lunch with her. She is great to talk to. You can talk with her, and she’s nice. And yeah, it was great to meet her, I got a few pictures with her.

Warner Bros Releases Goblet Production Notes

A lengthy and detailed 51-page document on the actors and actresses starring in Goblet of Fire has hit WB's publicity website. Of particular interest on Mad-Eye Moody:

“You seldom find an actor of Brendan’s depth and calibre,” adds Newell, who previously worked with Gleeson on the 1992 family adventure Into the West.

“Perhaps it’s true of all Irishmen, but Brendan has an elemental quality to him that is part savage and part wide-eyed innocent, which suited him well in playing this multifaceted character.” Moody’s piercing blue mechanical eye was created for the production by creature effects supervisor Nick Dudman and visual effects supervisor Jimmy Mitchell. “The eye became a character in itself,” Newell says, “although to reveal exactly how we created it would spoil the illusion for audiences.”

On the Hungarian Horntail scenes:

“We’ve taken the dragon chase well beyond the book,” visual effects supervisor Jimmy Mitchell elaborates. “We really show Harry’s prowess on a broom as the Horntail chases him out of the arena and up through mountains, viaducts and rooftops, and all across the school grounds.”

There are lots of new facts throughout, and it is a great read for anyone craving some behind-the-scenes bits on sets, costumes and more. A Microsoft Word version of it can be downloaded at this link. Thanks to HPANA for the tip!

More on the GoF Soundtrack

A few days ago we told you about the cover art for the Goblet of Fire soundtrack appearing on several websites. The US Amazon has now updated with that same cover image, but has also added this brief new description of the CD:

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth film (and soundtrack album) in the massively successful Harry Potter franchise-nearly $1 billion in U.S. box office alone-features a score by Academy Award-nominated composer Patrick Doyle and three songs written by modern rocker Jarvis Cocker, and performed by Cocker, Jonny Greenwood, Phil Selway, Steve Claydon and Jason Buckle-with all these musicians also appearing in the movie.

The soundtrack to the film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is due to be released on November 15th.

GoF Video Game Expands on Movie

In an interview with Harry Potter producer David Heyman and EA game director Guy Miller and senior art director Alex Laurant all discuss the differences between the movie and the video game as well as what was expanded upon.

On what's different from the movie:

Guy: We've expanded the Prefect's bathroom area. Because it's a multi-player game and not just Harry, we had to create a contrivance whereby Harry, Ron and Hermione could all be in the bathroom together and then go off with the egg!

David: There are some new creatures: Jo (Rowling) discussed a whole library of characters that weren't in the book so we got those.

Creatures in the video game:

Guy: There's a Vampire Mosp: a sort of wasp and a moth which Jo's seen, and the Irkling out of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them, so we're drawing on her whole world.

Alex: Our art department had a great time working with those creatures. It's a lot of fun.

David: It's really funny when you're working on the film because you're imbuing them with feelings: what's the Hippogriff felling? What's the motivation for the dragon? You have to think these things through about these fantasy creatures and it's very important: it is a bi-ped, it is a quadroped and what about the dragon? The people who do the conceptual art are sitting there with skeletons of birds and four-legged creatures to make sure that anatomically this is viable -this is verisimilitude. I think the approach we've taken is not to make cartoons but is to make reality and yes, we might be completely mad and delusional but we think this world is real, we work as though it is real.

According to Amazon the video game will be released on November 8th in the U.S. and November 11th in the UK.

Weasley's Magical Clock to Become a Reality?

As it was mentioned back in spring, the Weasleys' living room clock in the Harry Potter books, which indicates where any family member is at the moment, may become available to households in the future. The Irish Independent reports that Microsoft is researching on the development of a similar device that will display locations of family members outside the home with the use of mobile gadgets.

Inspired by JK Rowling's novels, the researchers and developers have labeled it the "whereabout clock". A brief summary as to how the technology is being developed surfaced recently:

"The whereabout clock's screen uses icons bearing the faces of each family member. Signals from their mobile phones are used to tell the computer where they are and the icons wander between colored segments to show whether they are at home, school, work or elsewhere....The clock will also be able to receive and display text messages. For instance a mother could text the screen that "working till 9pm, please put dinner in oven" and the words would hover next to her face icon."

Rumors on Goblet of Fire Running Time, Early Ticket Sales

There are reports today about the supposed running time of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Hpana is reporting that the time is at 157 minutes. We at Leaky have gotten several earlier reports that the length of the movie is at 160 minutes. Please keep in mind that this is all very much still a rumor. Also, we are hearing that some of the film chains, such as Regal Cinema, are going to start offering advance ticket sales to Goblet of Fire as early as this Friday, October 14th. Again, consider this in the rumor category until we can confirm it.

Film Review Article on Goblet of Fire

Snitch Seeker has now posted scans from the Film Review magazine feature on Goblet of Fire that we told you about yesterday. While much of the material we have seen before, there are some new quotes from the cast members interviewed. Those interviewed include Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), Stanislav Ianevski (Viktor Krum), Katie Leung (Cho Chang), and Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory), as well as film producer David Heyman. There is also this interesting bit from special effects supervisor Nick Dudman.

"We've produced the make-up for Mad-Eye Moody-which is quite extreme-the make-up and the look for Voldemort, and we've produced several gags for the scaling of Hagrid and Maxime's scene. Mad-Eye Moody's make-up was very difficult because it's such a ridiculous looking image, but you have to make it believable. Originally they were talking about CG-ing the ffect and we really fought against that because we wanted it to be something Brendan Gleeson could actually work with, although the eye itself he's not operating."

Thanks very much to Snitch Seeker!

Goblet of Fire Featured in Premiere Magazine

Dan on Voldemort:

Everything we have done before has been building to this confrontation with Voldemort. Everyone felt a responsibility to get it absolutely right, to make it fantastic and terrifying, so as to not to let everyone down.

Dan on Miranda Richardson's Rita:

She's got this photographer with her all the time and everybody off-camera was in hysterics because she'd be writing with a massive quill, and every time she'd end with a flourish she hit the photographer in the face, over and over. It's little details like that that make it incredibly funny.

GoF Soundtrack Track Listings

There is also a possibility that AOL will host a AOL Listening Party for the soundtrack. The AOL Listening Parties allow visitors to listen to an entire CD before it is released to the public. AOL did listening parties for both the Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban soundtracks, so they will more than likely do one for Goblet of Fire too. If AOL does do a listening party for GoF, I'll post how to find it on the blog.

Goblet of Fire Feature in Xpose Magazine

The current issue of Xpose magazine has a 16-page feature on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire which includes interviews with Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Mark Williams, James & Oliver Phelps, Bonnie Wright, David Heyman and special effects supervisors, Jim Mitchell & John Richardson.

Rupert tidbit on Goblet of Fire:

Ron has a hard time at the beginning finding a partner. He has some really embarrassing experiences and he falls out with Harry. He's just a bit jealous of Harry and he gets a bit jealous of her [Hermione's] partner, because I think he sort of likes Hermione. He's a bit more moody, more like a real teenager. He has a lot of fight which is something Ron's never really done and that was quite fun actually.

I think they [movies] get a bit more complicated as they on. I mean this is a new thing for me being moody. The shoot's a lot longer as well.

Scans of the article and some of the cast statements can be seen at SnitchSeeker.com.

German Potter Fan Gets Violent Over HBP

Tired of waiting for his copy of book six, a German HP fan threatened to kill people unless he got a book. The 24-year-old stole six copies of the book from a shop in the Hanover railway station, ran into another shop to get a bag, punched a customer in the face, and ran across a train platform, threatening to kill anyone in his way. Officers tackled him, and informed him that "he will likely have plenty of time for reading long books in his jail cell."

Fiennes Talks Voldemort

Our friends at Film Focus.co.uk recently had a chance to speak with actor Ralph Fiennes about his performance as Lord Voldemort in the upcoming Goblet of Fire film. In this interview, Mr. Fiennes speaks about the confrontation scene saying it's scary and that "there's a real menace in the scene; the tone is quite unlike anything we've seen in Potter before. It's a scary, scary, scary scene..." He goes on to speak about working with Daniel Radcliffe, noting:

"Dan's very good," he said, "working with him was wonderful. Poor guy, he had to be so patient. I had to do all this waffling and talking about how I'm the Master of the Universe and how I'm evil and I'm going to kill him and he has to stand there all tied up, writhing around and groaning with pain while I'm monologuing towards him.

The Evil-Genius monalogue bit - no film is complete without it! I just love playing evil characters!"

That is something I have been very keen on about Mike. He has really focused on what is funny in that very British idea of growing up in a boarding school.
